Regulators are responsible for ensuring appropriate standards are met to support community safety and to protect the environment and the rights of Queenslanders.
Our better practice guide provides a tool for entities to self-assess how well they manage their regulatory functions. Our advice is explained under the key principles of: plan, act, report, and learn.
The guide reflects insights from multiple Queensland Audit Office audits and reports to parliament where we have found issues with regulatory functions. It is drawn from our report Regulating animal welfare services (Report 6: 2021–22). In our report, we recommend that all regulators assess their activities and performance against these good practices.
