Annual reports are the primary way that government agencies account for their performance to Parliament and the community. Legislation requires that all agencies and statutory bodies prepare annual reports and table them in the Parliament.

The overall objective of this audit was to identify opportunities to enhance accountability to Parliament through annual reporting. The audit checked whether departmental annual reports complied with the prescribed requirements and fairly represented achievements against planned performance.
